Laura Gambrell, Director of Development, Marketing, and Communications at ACEing Autism, recently shared insights about the organization's mission, impact, and collaboration with Eleplan. ACEing Autism is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to supporting children with autism through affordable and personalized tennis programming. Laura, who joined the organization in June, is passionate about the measurable difference these programs make, both for athletes and volunteers. In our conversation, Laura highlights the importance of fostering connections within the autism community and emphasizes the rewarding experience of volunteering.

Great to meet you! Tell us a bit about your organization and what it does.

We are a volunteer-driven non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with autism grow through the sport of tennis. ACEing Autism is on a mission for children with autism to grow, develop and benefit from social connections and fitness through affordable tennis programming, uniquely serving individual needs while filling a national void for this growing and worthy population.

Why do you do what you do? Tell us why you got involved with your organization.

I joined ACEing Autism in June as the Director of Development, Marketing, and Communications, and I was drawn to this incredible organization because it’s not just about telling a good story—it’s about real, measurable impact. The research and data behind our programs show the positive difference we’re making in the lives of both our athletes and volunteers. This work goes beyond the tennis court, creating lasting societal change by fostering greater understanding and connection with the autism community. That’s what inspires me to be a part of this mission.

How can others get involved with your organization?

We invite interested volunteers to be part of a deeply fulfilling experience that transforms lives and contributes to a growing national movement. You don’t need to be a tennis player—just caring, energetic, and willing to volunteer two hours a week for six weeks during the spring or fall. You will join our team of 5,000+ dedicated volunteers, give back to your community, and help create fun, social interactions for children with autism through tennis. It’s a rewarding and unforgettable experience for everyone involved!

How do you think Eleplan benefits people in your organization?

We're thrilled to collaborate with Eleplan to introduce their AI-powered care planning platform to our community. Eleplan streamlines care coordination and ensures that essential information is always readily available to those who need it. Their platform is designed to support both family and professional caregivers by providing the tools necessary to prevent care tasks from slipping through the cracks, especially during times of high turnover or complex care coordination.

Navigating care can be challenging. What's your number one tip for caregivers looking for support or resources?

Don't hesitate to ask for help early and often. Connect with a support network—whether it's through family, friends, or professional services—and take advantage of tools like Eleplan to keep everyone on the same page. Caring for others can be overwhelming, but utilizing technology to organize care plans and tapping into community resources can make a world of difference.

Is there any other advice you have for the Eleplan community?

Caregivers should prioritize self-care to avoid burnout and stay organized using tools like Eleplan to streamline care plans and reduce stress. Open communication among everyone involved ensures clarity, while staying informed about new resources and techniques can improve care. It's also essential to seek emotional support from friends, groups, or professionals to help manage the emotional demands of caregiving. By taking these steps, caregivers can provide better care and maintain their own well-being.
